ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Hi, I'm Johannes Lukas Gartner. I am a Search Inside Yourself Facilitator, a traveler, a leader, a follower, a son, a strategy consultant, a brother of two, a life coach, a friend.
Born in Vienna, Austria in 1989.
Besides working as an independent Search Inside Yourself facilitator, coach, and speaker, I am a Senior Consultant for the New York City-based social justice leadership non-profit Humanity in Action Inc. Up until December 2018, I was Germany’s Director of Programs at Humanity in Action.
After adventurous high school years between a wild variety of student jobs and backpacking Europe and Latin America, I graduated in law from King’s College London (LLB) and Humboldt University Berlin (LLM) as well as in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies.
My professional life kicked off with strategy consulting for public sector clients at the world's only leading management consulting firm of European origin, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. While at university, I also gained part-time and full-time work experience at diverse places ranging from the Centro Nacional de Comunicación Social, a press freedom and civil society communications non-profit in Mexico City, all the way to Lilofee, an independent children’s toy store in Berlin-Kreuzberg. I learned through internships and research visits at places including the HIV/Aids Program of the United Nations Development Program, the European Union Fundamental Rights Agency, and multinational law firms in Istanbul and London.
I've had the pleasure and privilege of addressing audiences at various places including NYU, Uppsala Pride, or the BBC World Service. Academically, I have edited a book on minority rights and international relations and have published myself on various issues such as the persecution of journalists in Mexico or the reception of migrants in the European Union. My most recent work (2019) is an encyclopaedia entry published in the Global Encyclopaedia of Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Queer History.
I was born and raised in Vienna and had the possibility of leaving my Viennese high school time for a year in the Panamanian countryside with the American Field Service whose Viennese board of directors I joined after returning.
